America Needs a History Lesson-From President Trump on Down!

In an article on the MIC Network, Inc. under the banner Navigating TRUMP'S AMERICA, author Emily C. Singer makes a truly profound statement. She also attempts to answer the most profound question in American history as put forth by President Donald Trump and others. Her statement? “America needs a history lesson.” His question? “...but why was there the Civil War?”

The question comes from an interview of the President by the Washington Examiner's Salena Zito. The interview included President Trump’s comparison of his presidential campaign to that of President Andrew Jackson. In the interview Trump wonders aloud about how Jackson would have avoided the war.

Trump said, "He was really angry that he saw what was happening with regard to the Civil War, he said, 'There's no reason for this,'" Trump said of Jackson. "People don't realize, you know, the Civil War. If you think about it, why? People don't ask that question, but why was there the Civil War? Why could that one not have been worked out?"

In answering the President’s question Singer says, “There's an easy answer: slavery. At the time Civil War broke out, southern states were in the process of breaking from the Union over their desire to protect their right to own slaves.” By giving the “easy answer” Singer gives the wrong answer and proves that America does indeed need a history lesson.

The Civil War was never about slavery. The Civil War was about whether or not the labor system of slavery would be allowed to expand into the new territories the United States had acquired in the Louisiana Purchase. It was about keeping the system of slavery in place where it existed-North and South. It was about the Aristocracy in the South and whether or not they would be allowed to grow so strong that they would take over the country. And the source of their strength that made the eleven states in the South the 5th largest economy in the world at that time? It was the Unpaid Labor System!

But then what is the answer to the President’s second question? He asked, “Why could that one not have been worked out?” The answer is that America had been trying to work that one out from the very beginning. They tried one compromise after another to work it out from 1776 to 1860 until they ran out of compromises and went to war. The war would eventually put an end to legal slavery but it was never fought for that purpose.

But we must thank President Donald Trump and Emily Singer for the opportunity to discuss the history. Unpaid Labor is so big that every significant decision in the nation’s history from 1607 to 1865 had to take it into account. Unpaid Labor is responsible for the birth, growth and survival of the United States of America and so it’s important to get the history right. To quote Robert Pierce Forbes, PhD from his book The Missouri Compromise and Its Aftermath, “...a narrative that negates all traces of a matter as massive as slavery must inevitably distort the rest of the story as well.”
