You Can Free Yourself -- The Slaves Did!

In 1865 there was a parade in Washington D.C. called the Grand Review of the Armies. The soldiers from the winning side marched in front of President Andrew Johnson and General Ulysses Grant. There were so many of them that it took two days for them to march. But they were all white. The black soldiers were left out. They could have marched but they were left out on purpose.

Not to worry. One hundred and fifty years later in 2015 there was another parade in Washington D.C. called the Grand Review of the Armies. This one celebrated the first one. This one included black men playing the role of black soldiers from one hundred and fifty years ago.

The men of 2015 are from the United Staes Colored Troops Living History Association. Like Unpaid Labor they know that black soldiers and sailors made the difference in the Civil War. They know that Unpaid Laborers fought to free themselves. They are the children of those soldiers. They honor them. We honor them. Last year the nation honored them. Be like them however you can. Free yourself by knowing your history. Help others to free themselves by changing the way we all think about our people, our nation, and ourselves. Come back to unpaidlabor.com to read about it.
